1. Link Information Side Panel

Link Side Panel

This is the first icon on the left hand side of the icons, and is really useful for a brief overview of what the link your looking at entails. As you can see above it has the following features:

  • Path - the hyperlink that the link page is taken from; clicking this will take you to the exact webpage that is shown on Ronsplace
    - (under the subtitle ‘Site’ there is another header called ‘Path,’ this one will take you to the webpage in general rather than the exact page)
  • Description (SITE) - a brief overview of the link; can be edited by right clicking it.
  • Rating (SITE) - you can give your links star ratings out of 5.
    - The two above headers can also be found under the subtitle ‘Page;’ these refer to the direct link page that you are looking at, whereas the ‘Site’ refers to the web-link website as a whole.
  • Page Online Information - you can find there the website Icon or pictures links.
  • History - Any action operated on the link (name edited, star ratings, notes added etc...) will be displayed in this area with day and time.

2. Links Tags Side Panel

Link Tags Side Panel

This icon is used for marking and identifying links using visual ‘tags’ to help organize and identify specific details. As you can see above when you first open this panel there are 7 ‘tags’ automatically available for use, each with their own colour key. It is easy to add or remove tags (which I shall be showing you in more detail in the next article Creating Tags, Utilising Notes and Editing).

If you would like to attach a tag to a link, for example if a film is of the Horror genre, you would simply add a new tag to the list, then select the tick box to the left hand side of the tag name (shown above).

This is a very simple introduction to this particular tool, as the ‘tags’ tool is an incredibly useful one which has many more utilities which I shall be explaining to you in a later article.

3. Links Notes Side Panel

Link Notes Side Panel

This icon is one of the most useful tools within WebLynx, especially if you are needing to research a lot of content and need to remember what was on what website!

One of the best analogies for this tools is to imagine you are looking for the ideal vacation location; a task which often contains a lot of information that you somehow need to remember! Instead of trying to remember which deal was on which web link, ‘notes’ will enable you to log whatever information you need under each link, making organizing a fair easier job.

To do this, all you need to do is click the little pen icon in the top right hand side of the notes box, type whatever you like in the dialogue box (shown above) then press the save icon.

4. Links Page Side Panel

Page Side Panel

This icon enables you to view the actual webpage within the software, keeping all the formatting. It is important to note that if you were to click on a link on this web page it will open it up in your web browser. However, I shall be showing you something incredibly useful in a future article regarding this!

5. Link(s) Content Side Panel

Link Content Side Panel

This icon enables you to view the raw context of the web link and view its images, but removed all formatting and ‘distractions’ such as advertisements and videos. This is an incredibly useful tool if, like myself, you can be distracted by anything and everything on the internet.

6. Landing Zone

WebLynx landing zone

The Landing Zone exists outside any WebLynx file and is shared between all open WebLynx windows. It can be used to transfer links between files, and also servers as a place to incoming links to land before they are filed in a specific file - hence the name.

7. Automatic Filing

WebLynx automatic filing

Automatic Filing is a topic unto itself but it can be configured and applied from the Automatic Filing side panel.
